Eighty Eight Miles lead a new generation of female fronted bands, with their infectious indie sound and flawless vocals. Taking their name from the ‘Back To The Future’ trilogy, the Midlands band blend old and new to create tracks like ‘Sexy Song’ (which Music Crowns said ‘makes an impression with…playful drums, grooving bass lines and riff-roaring guitars,’) and most recently, ‘Always On The Run’.
Colour TV are a Plymouth-based indie band that combine Suede-like vocals, by frontman Sam Dureen, with a frenzy Jack Yeo on guitar, James Elliott on bass and Sean Goldsmith on drums. Since forming as a four piece in 2020, the band have built a strong live reputation and loyal fanbase, that has continued this year with their big comeback after a hiatus. Haytor are quickly becoming one of the biggest names in the South West music scene, with their lively guitar-driven performance and introspective lyrics. Formed in Exeter, Haytor’s songs are vibrant, emotive and almost always guaranteed to have a hell of an anthemic chorus. Their high-energy live shows, charisma and tight musicianship has has earned them support from BBC radio and a growing following.
Friday night headliner Kyle Falconer was previously part of Mercury-nominated The View, who burst into the music scene with their number 1 debut album in the mid 2000s. Now Kyle navigates the scene solo, with awards following him including the Best Album Award for his debut solo album No Thank You in 2019, and the prestigious King Tut’s Songwriting Award in 2024.

Plymouth-based four piece The Rhodes return to the Sound Factory Festival main stage for another year. Since the last festival, the indie rockers joined Tom Meighan (ex-Kasabian frontman) at the iconic Glasgow Barrowland Ballroom and released their latest single ‘Ride’ with accompanying tracks ‘Love & Violence’ and ‘Second To None’. The Rhodes continue to become a cult favourite in the South West music scene.
Since forming in 2019, three mates from Yorkshire, also known as The Slates, have shared stages with 90s legends Embrace, played major UK festivals and sold out headlines, built upon their strong grassroots following and packed performances. ASBO Magazine says The Slates’ latest single Understand The Groove isn’t just another release, it shows they’re ‘ready to fill those bigger festival stages,’ as one of the UK’s most compelling emerging indie acts.

South West’s own BOSS CASS is a high-octane one-man punk powerhouse, complete with old-school ghetto blaster and full stage show, including a homemade lighting rig. His music sits somewhere between Soft Play, Beastie Boys and IDLES - high-energy, infectiously cheeky and fiercely grassroots. Since he started in 2022, he’s played over 170 DIY gigs UK-wide, including performances at Glastonbury, Boardmasters, Burn It Down Festival and The Great Estate to name a few.
Ones to catch before they make it big. Die Twice are redefining band culture in a modern world disillusioned with modern landscapes. Olly Bayton, Billy Twamley, Finn ‘Blue’ Lloyd and Jake ‘Fig’ Coles combine romantic absurdity, the edge of The Doors and the emotive resonance of Jeff Buckley to create generational tracks. Their infectious wit and cheeky authenticity soundtrack their sonic experiences of danger and pain to love and identity.
Exeter’s hidden gem Halfcut blends Lucas’ vocals - which have a haunting likeness to those of Bowie or Morrison - with the modern eclectic lyricism of a recent Alex Turner. Their most recent EP ‘Rough & Tumble’ is narratively strong, their artistic identity set and their live performance seriously compelling, Halfcut are ones not to be missed.
South West indie rockers The Kabins are a five-piece built on big hooks and guitar-driven momentum. Fronted by Todd Gilronan’s smooth vocals and backed by dual guitars, driving bass and relentless drums, their sound pulls from 90s Britpop with a modern indie intensity. Recent releases like ‘Whisper’ and ‘Penelope’ highlight the strength of their songwriting and translate even better in front of a live crowd, as a sold-out Exeter Phoenix were lucky enough to experience this Winter!
Martha Fay is a Bristol-based singer songwriter known for her raw, emotionally charged storytelling. Drawing inspiration from Adrianne Lenker, Taylor Swift and Fleetwood Mac, she weaves themes of heartbreak, friendships, identity and coming of age into her music. A recent BIMM graduate, she now performs with her band (Clem Nash, Charlie Whitelock, Buster Denman and Joshua Belotti) live, blending dreamy pop with folk-rock as they gear up to release their first tracks. You can hear her debut single ‘Evelyn’ on all streaming platforms now.
Nothing Rhymes With Orange (Elijah Easton, Finlay Anderson-Farquhar, Sam Briggs, and Lui Venables) are a Bristol-based indie rock band known for their clear-cut firey originals, ranging from heartfelt ballads like ‘Shearwater’ to anthems like ‘Stepping Up My Spine’. So far, the band have played over 150 gigs around the UK - including Dot2Dot, Golden Touch and 110 Above festivals - and are championed by James Threlfall on BBC Introducing in the West.
Formed in Cornwall in 2022, The Ragdolls are a rising alternative rock band, tightly weaving infectious hooks and melodic vocals to create a sound that audibly nods to the likes of The Strokes, Pixies and New Order. Under the former name of Astrid, they released their debut EP ‘We’ve Gone Wrong’ in 2023, and more recently have released their second EP ‘Nuisance Diary’ as The Ragdolls in late 2024.
RatTrap are a Plymouth-based five piece that draw on influences including Arctic Monkeys, The Royston Club and The Mysterines. The band draw a lot of sonic inspiration from lead singer Tommy Frost’s upbringing in the North. Hits include ‘She Likes You’, ‘Get It Through’ and their most recent release ‘All The Same’. With frequent dates in Plymouth and a recently-announced slot at Teddy Rocks Festival, RatTrap are becoming a go-to name in the South West music scene.
ROMAN are an up-and-coming indie/alternative Bristol five-piece. Their music blends grungy atmospheric guitars and emotional lyrics, placing them somewhere between indie rock and shoegaze. You can expect lush, textured soundscapes from ROMAN that brings together guitars, synth, bass and drums to create energetic live performances reminiscent of sounds of Arcade Fire, Pearl Jam and The Verve.
Andy Quick is a Plymouth-based genre-defying musician known for leading The Andy Quick Band and formerly Land of The Giants. His music is hard to pin down, combining funk, rock, blues and hip-hop into a unique sound that is built for festivals and packed dance floors. Quick’s catchy songwriter has seen him gain slots at major UK festivals like Glastonbury and Boardmasters.
Cat Rose is a rising indie-folk singer and songwriter, based in Plymouth. Cat started her journey with the Barbican Theatre Rebels programme (funded by Youth Music) and since then has released her debut EP ‘WASTE LAND’, known for its exploration of darkness and whimsy, and themes including neurodiversity and mental health. ‘Cat is a brilliantly talented songwriter - she has an interesting insight, and is a very funny create person, it comes across in her music.’ - Tom Williams, BBC Introducing
Hailing from Cornwall, Essy Sparrow is an indie-folk pop artist whose melodies are as sharp as her wit, known for her poignant storytelling and quick humour that feels both deeply personal and heartbreakingly relatable. Her debut EP ‘Still Upset About It Actually’ has amassed over 45 spins on radio stations UK-wide since its release in 2024 and earned her the affectionate nickname of ‘scrappy little songwriter.’
Kate Hall is a singer/songwriter from Plymouth who blends soulful vocals and piano-led pop to create a sound both classical and current. On the scene since 2023, Kate takes influence from artists like Amy Winehouse, KT Tunstall, Fiona Apple and Adele to create her own songs that are both classic and current. Performing across Plymouth both solo and with a full band lineup, last year saw Kate open The View stage with her band at Boardmasters Festival for BBC Introducing South West, who have also added her to their ‘Best of 2025’ list.
Kitty Crocker is a singer-songwriter from Cornwall, influenced by lyricists like Lizzy McAlpine. Her discography, including her most recent single ‘Wake Up Call’, is known for their catchy rhythms and sonic storytelling. ‘Her songs are an invitation to her world.
